Zananavičius and Sweden’s Minister for Health and Social Affairs discuss issues on EU agenda

On 2 October in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Albinas Zananavičius met with Sweden’s Minister for Health and Social Affairs Annika Strandhäll, who is visiting Lithuania.

“Sweden is an important and reliable partner of Lithuania. The countries enjoy their close cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, energy security, defence, and other areas. We welcome our dynamic and positive bilateral relationship,” said Zananavičius.

Lithuania and Sweden share the same position on many issues on the EU agenda. The interlocutors exchanged their views on the upcoming Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth in Gothenburg on 17 November 2017. Sweden’s Government together with the European Commission have invited heads of state or government from EU member states to attend the Social Summit in Sweden. The meeting also discussed the revision of the Directive on the Posting of Workers.

As regards the future of Europe and the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, Zananavičius and the Minister for Health and Social Affairs agreed that the EU’s unity was needed during the difficult period more than ever. In addition, Sweden seeks Lithuania’s support for moving the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from London to Stockholm.

Due to Brexit, two EU agencies – the European Banking Authority and the EMA – will be moved out of London. 19 cities have offered to host the EMA.
