WORLD LITHUANIAN COMMUNITY SUPPORTS NATO ENLARGEMENT

Representatives of the World Lithuanian Community, holding annual congress in the Polish town of Sejny, on 14th of August adopted a statement expressing support to further NATO enlargement. In the statement, addressed to the US, Polish and Lithuanian presidents, the community welcomes Lithuania's efforts in alliance membership preparation and Poland's success in implementing NATO's policy and goals as its new member. The statement also rejoices at the US support in ensuring the continuity of NATO enlargement and invitation of new members in 2002. "We are inviting the leaders of the US and Poland to continue resolutely supporting the invitation of new members, Lithuania and the Baltic states including, to NATO at the Summit meeting in Praque in 2002," the statement of the World Lithuanian Community said. Lithuanian's and other Baltic states' membership in the alliance would finally restore historical justice and ensure the creation of a united and safe Europe.
