WHEN MARKING THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF LITHUANIA-CHINA RELATIONS, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER EMPHASIZES BILATERAL COOPERATION IN TRANSPORT SECTOR
At the opening of the photo exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations of Lithuania and China on 21 October, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė emphasized transport cooperation and joint activities within the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) forum.
According to A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, the Lithuanian-Chinese partnership is marked by joint action within ASEM countries. The first ASEM Transport Ministers’ meeting was held in Vilnius in 2009. This year, Lithuania’s initiative is continued in China, as the second meeting is to be held in Chengdu on 25-26 October. The ASEM is a process of dialogue bringing together all European Union member states with 20 Asian Pacific countries. At the initiative of the countries participating in the process, the ASEM dialogue addresses political, economic and socio-cultural issues. Lithuania has been member of ASEM since 2004.
The photographs presented by the Chinese Embassy in Lithuania depict the most important moments of the Lithuania-China cooperation over the past 20 years. They caught a glimpse of various spheres of public life: politics, economics, culture, education and sports.
The Vice-Minister said that China’s recognition of the country’s independence 20 years ago was very important to Lithuania. She thanked Chinese Ambassador to Lithuania Tong Mingtao for his country’s support to Lithuania at a crucial time.
A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė believes that the exhibition, which runs at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, testifies to the joint activity of Lithuania and China over the last twenty years.
Lithuania and China established diplomatic relations on 14 September 1991.
