We want to see more of Lithuania in Poland and more of Poland in Lithuania, says Lithuania’s head of diplomacy

On 10 March in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met for the first time with participants of a meeting of Lithuanian and Polish editors-in-chief and media executives.

According to Linkevičius, the fact that the communication field of bilateral relations has shrunk in recent years is intolerable and a joint effort is necessary to tackle the situation.

“We seek to build bridges of cooperation between Lithuania and Poland. We do not deny that we have not finished our homework yet and that far too often we have fallen back on stereotypes,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy underlined the necessity to develop a strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland, and not to give in to attempts by third countries to disunite civil society in our countries.

“In the context of current security challenges, the Lithuania-Poland cooperation based on mutual trust and respect is a critical issue, and the media plays a special role in the process. We want to see more of Lithuania in Poland and more of Poland in Lithuania. We see opportunities for the Polish media to reach the Polish community in Lithuania and to be a counterbalance to the Kremlin-controlled TV stations that are now very popular,” said Linkevičius.

The meeting brought together Lithuanian and Polish editors-in-chief and media executives, who discussing opportunities for the development of joint projects, which aim to increase the visibility of Poland in Lithuania and of Lithuania in Poland, and are looking for ways to respond to aggressive information policy conducted by third countries.
