WE OUGHT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CREATION OF STRONG EUROPEAN UNION, WHICH WOULD ACT AS A HARMONIOUS COMMUNITY OF STATES
On 16 November, at the conference “Political and Cultural Transformations of European States Identity: the Role of the European Union”, Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laimonas Talat-Kelpša indicated in his welcoming speech that this discussion gave ancillary excellent evidence of our “Europeization” as well as it marked the increasing maturity of our statehood.
L.Talat-Kelpša stressed that the European Union Reform Treaty that was to be signed in December, in Lisbon, would open a new page in the history of the European integration, presenting favourable opportunities to Lithuania too.
“We will be able to end the endless debate regarding the European Union institutional architecture and the future of the common policies. We hope that a long-term decision will be adopted, which will also allow to address concrete and practical issues,” said L.Talat-Kelpša.
Discussions, according to the Undersecretary of the Ministry, should be followed by taking specific steps to demonstrate both to the global partners and to the EU citizens that the EU is strong, unified, and capable to meet the new challenges.
“Strategic goal of Lithuania remains the same – we ought to contribute to the creation of strong European Union, which would act as a harmonious community of states. This is the best way to accord with the interests of our country as well as those of every citizen,” claimed Undersecretary of the Ministry L.Talat-Kelpša.
L.Talat-Kelpša invited political scientists to share their creative ideas, initiatives, to participate in discussions and to become partners of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in informing the society.
“Let’s strive together to adopt more European attitudes at work and in every day life,” said L.Talat-Kelpša.
The conference is organized by the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University and Lithuanian Political Science Association. The conference is aimed at discussing important issues of development of the European Union and Lithuanian EU policy.
