We believe that relations between the United Kingdom and Lithuania will remain strong and close, Linkevičius says in a conversation with Johnson
“We are not glad that the Brexit process has begun, but we hope that the United Kingdom will maintain reasonable proximity to the EU and will become even more actively involved in addressing our region’s security issues,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius in a telephone conversation with the British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. The telephone conversation took place on Johnson’s initiative.
The British Foreign Secretary informed Linkevičius about the activation of the Article 50. He also stressed that the relationship with Lithuania would remain strong and robust. According to Johnson, our values are the same and our principled positions towards threats facing Europe fully coincide. The British Foreign Secretary once again pledged to visit Lithuania in the short run.
Linkevičiaus said that the deployment of British troops in the Baltic states was the best proof that the country would continue to actively deal with our region’s security issues.
