Vice-Minister Verbickas: ensuring responsible labour migration is key in cooperation with the Philippines
On 25 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of human relations and labour migration with the Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers of the Philippines, Hans Leo J. Cacdac, who is visiting Vilnius.
The Vice-Minister welcomed the growing contribution of Filipino specialists and employees to the Lithuanian economy. He stressed the importance of ensuring transparent, orderly and mutually beneficial labour mobility, while safeguarding both the rights and well-being of migrant workers and the legitimate interests of employers. Verbickas also emphasized the knowledge of the Lithuanian language as an important condition for successful integration into the labour market and society.
Both sides welcomed the deepening inter-institutional cooperation. An important step in this direction was the signing, earlier the same day in Vilnius, of a Joint Communiqué on Migrant Workers between the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania and the Department of Migrant Workers of the Republic of the Philippines.
As of 1 September 2026, a total of 4826 Filipino nationals were employed in the Republic of Lithuania. Most of them are in positions requiring higher qualifications in the Klaipėda region.
