Vice-Minister Pranevičius bids farewell to outgoing Namibian ambassador

On August 18, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Julius Pranevičius, met with Charles B. Josob, Namibian Ambassador to Lithuania, who is ending his term. During the meeting, they looked at what's been achieved in developing bilateral relations and talked about new ways to work together.

"Lithuania and Namibia are linked by unique historical and personal ties – both countries regained their independence at almost the same time, and Lithuanian-born Harold Pupkewitz became one of the most prominent representatives of Namibia's economy. This experience creates a strong foundation for closer cooperation between our countries," said Deputy Minister Pranevičius.

Ambassador Josob expressed his hope that the work begun during his term would continue and that the commonalities and similarities between Lithuania and Namibia would help develop relations.

Global security challenges were also discussed at the meeting. J. Pranevičius emphasized the importance of the international community's support for Ukraine and unity against Russian aggression, stressed the need to defend the rules-based international order and the principles of the UN Charter.

The growing flow of travelers and students between the two countries was also welcomed. Pranevičius and Josob also discussed joint opportunities in economic areas ranging from energy, digitalization, and cyber security to agriculture and food products.

Namibia recognized Lithuania in 1991, and diplomatic relations were established in 2005.

Lithuania is currently represented in Namibia by Ambassador Rasa Jankauskaitė, who resides in Pretoria, South Africa, and there is an Honorary Consulate of Namibia in Kaunas.
