Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Plepytė: Vilnius and Warsaw are strategic partners in the face of shared security challenges

On 17 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė paid a working visit to Warsaw, where she met with the Polish Undersecretaries of State Robert Kupiecki and Wojciech Zajączkowski to discuss reinforcing deterrence and defence posture along NATO's eastern flank, transatlantic cooperation, security concerns in the Baltic Sea region, support for Ukraine, and the European Neighbourhood Policy.

According to the Vice-Minister Plepytė, Lithuania and Poland are not merely neighbours and strategic partners, but also like-minded nations united by a shared understanding of threats. Therefore, it is very important to act on bolstering NATO’s eastern flank defense capabilities and do so by effectively using EU provided instruments.

During the meetings, it was agreed to coordinate the response to Belarusian hybrid threats posed by instrumentalised migration and smuggler meteorological balloons that impact not  only to our countries, but also the entire region. The need to intensify cooperation in the field of security policy was also discussed the need to strengthen support for Ukraine, as it defends itself against Russian aggression already the fifth year was emphasized.
The Vice-Minister also met with Prof. Katarzyna Pisarska, the Chair of the Warsaw Security Forum, and visited the Government Centre for Security, where she met with its Director Zbigniew Muszyński.
