Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania meets with Moroccan Ambassador
On January 16, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Albinas Zananavičius met with Khadija Rouissi, the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Lithuania, who arrived to present letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
During the meeting, they discussed the issues of the bilateral agenda, EU-Morocco relations, cooperation with the UN and other international organisations. The discussion on opportunities to enhance relations in political, cultural and economic areas led to the mutual conclusion that two-state cooperation required a stable legal basis, and the parties agreed on advancing the drafting process of bilateral agreements.
Vice-Minister Zananavičius also emphasised willingness of Lithuania for more active cooperation in international organisations and introduced Lithuania as a candidate to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the membership of which had been granted to Morocco already twice.
Ambassador Rouissi highlighted the interest of Morocco in promoting tourism as well as academic and cultural exchanges and invited to use the Moroccan channel seeking opportunities for access to the markets of the Sub-Saharan Africa.
Ambassador Khadija Rouissi is the sixth accredited Moroccan Ambassador to Lithuania, residing in Copenhagen. The Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco headed by Linas Aldonis has been operating since 2012 in Kaunas. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania Abdallah Raji has been working in Casablanca from 2006.
The diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Morocco were established 25 years ago, on 7 May 1992.
