Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania attends bilateral political consultations in Croatia

On 22 May in Zagreb, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus held bilateral political consultations with Croatian Vice-Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Andreja Metelko-Zgombić.
The consultations focused on bilateral relations, opportunities for deepening economic cooperation, EU enlargement and institutional matters, the regional security situation, and preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit.
Vice-Minister Mitkus briefed his Croatian counterpart on Lithuania's support for Ukraine, outlined its key priorities, and emphasized the need for long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, including its EU membership.
“Lithuania supports the integration of Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkan countries into the European Union. All countries seeking EU membership must continue to fulfill their commitments and reforms and uphold the EU’s core values. Countries that are making progress should be allowed to move forward. Despite the ongoing war, Kyiv is meeting its obligations. Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is one of the strongest possible security guarantees. Our goal is to see Ukraine become a full EU member by 2030,” said the Vice-Minister.
Sigitas Mitkus also thanked Croatia for its contribution to regional security, noting that it had sent a military contingent to participate in NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence in Lithuania in 2018, 2020, and 2023.
