VICE-MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS CONFIRMED LITHUANIA’S SUPPORT FOR GEORGIA’S EU AND NATO ASPIRATIONS
On 29 March in Vilnius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas met with the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia and expressed support for Georgia’s aspirations to join the European Union and NATO. He also stressed the importance to ensure the irreversibility of the EU integration transatlantic processes.
The Georgian Parliament delegation led by Zviad Kvatchantiradze, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of Georgia, participated in the training program organized by Lithuanian Parliament and the International Republican Institute. The main goal of the training programme is to share the experience of Lithuania’s parliamentary integration and democratic reforms with the members of parliaments and officials from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and other countries.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrius Krivas emphasized strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and determination of the new Government to pursue its European and Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations. The guest delegation was assured that Lithuania would provide further support to Georgia on its integration way. The Vice-Minister also encouraged the Georgian political forces to use consolidation opportunities and implement the reforms necessary to achieve the envisioned goals. A. Krivas welcomed the resolution adopted by the Georgian Parliament on the transatlantic and EU-integration objectives and amendments to the Constitution of Georgia recently adopted unanimously by the Parliament. Vice-Minister stressed that this would definitely help Georgia to achieve its foreign policy objectives.
A.Krivas also presented to the guests Lithuania`s preparedness for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of this year. During the presidency the Eastern partnership will be one of the main priorities. On 28-29 November, the third EU-Eastern Partnership summit will be held in Vilnius.
Vice-Minister also drew attention to the successful negotiations on Georgia-EU Association agreement and visa dialogue and expressed hope that the Eastern Partnership Summit would achieve concrete and substantial results regarding EU- Georgia’s relations.
