Vice-Minister Mitkus: Lithuania and Poland are more than neighbours on the world map – we are allies and close partners

On 18 November, the 10th Lithuanian-Polish Round Table Forum began in Vilnius to discuss the development of Lithuania's and Poland's political thought and exchange views on topical security issues, strengthen transatlantic cooperation, support for Ukraine, and the European Union's agenda. The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigitas Mitkus congratulated the participants of the event, noting that the complex political reality gives new meaning to this event.

“Lithuania and Poland are more than neighbours sharing a common border on the map – we are allies and close partners. Our countries face very similar threats and challenges. Today, it is particularly important to remain united, not only to maintain a close dialogue, but also to take decisions that are relevant to our countries that would enhance Lithuania's and Poland's defence and security, competitiveness, strengthen the transatlantic bond and resilience of societies," said the Vice-Minister.

The two-day event aims to provide experts and representatives of the academic community with insights and ensure a better understanding of the political reality of Lithuania and Poland and its future.

"We, Lithuania and Poland, know the price of freedom. Thus, today, more than ever, cooperation between our countries in the areas of defence and security, support for Ukraine, border protection, the fight against disinformation and attempts to rewrite history is crucial," said Mitkus.

The traditional event is held every few years. This year, the event is organised by the  Geopolitics and Security Studies Centre (GSSC), together with a partner – the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).
