Vice-Minister Grigaitė-Daugirdė receives the Ambassador of Japan: lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine is the main objective of the international community

On 11 April, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania Shinsuke Shimizu.

The meeting ddressed cooperation between strategic partners – Lithuania and Japan – in international organisations and the international community’s response to Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, including the need to ensure that Russian and Belarus regimes are punished  for the crimes committed.

Grigaitė-Daugirdė stressed that the main aim of the  international community is to secure a lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine, achieved following the principles of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. The Vice-Minister said that we must maintain close relations with like-minded partners around the world, as the conclusion of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine will have a decisive impact on the security of both Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

The Vice-Minister thanked Japan for its support to Ukraine and expressed appreciation for its efforts to help the country that is fighting Russia's invasion in various international formats and initiatives.
