Unique exhibition of diplomatic documents opens at Lithuanian Foreign Ministry
An exhibition of original diplomatic documents and their copies, collected by hobbyists Vytautas Šaikus and Rolandas Česūnas, was opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 12 February. The exhibition features passports and visas, which were issued by well-known Lithuanian and foreign diplomats, including the former Japanese Consul in Kaunas Chiune Sugihara.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius opened the exhibition. According to the Foreign Minister, this unique exposition offers immediate opportunity to touch Lithuania’s diplomatic history.
“Diplomacy is an integral part of Lithuania’s Statehood. Today’s event, which also marks the 16th of February, symbolically starts a series of events and projects, dedicated to the restoration of an independent State of Lithuania and the 100th anniversary of Lithuania’s modern diplomacy,” the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy said.
Former President Valdas Adamkus, who attended the event, noted that activities, which strengthened the Statehood of Lithuania, increased well-being of the people and the country’s authority, were among the most significant ones. According to V.Adamkus, this exhibition sets a good example.
