UNDERSECRETARY OF LITHUANIA’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TOOK PART IN THE FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING OF THE EU AND THE PERSIAN GULF COOPERATION COUNCIL

On 29 April in Muscat, the capital of Oman, Undersecretary of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė took part in the 19th Foreign Ministers’ meeting of the EU and the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council.

While speaking at the meeting, Undersecretary of the Ministry A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė stressed that during the global financial and economic crisis it was particularly important to find solutions, which would allow for the countries of the EU and the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council to sign a Free Trade Agreement. According to the Undersecretary of the Ministry, this agreement would be a prerequisite for the development of economic and trade relations of Lithuania and the Persian Gulf countries.

During her visit to Oman, A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with Secretary General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Oman Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of National Economy Ahmed Macki, Commerce and Industry Minister Makbool Bin Ali Bin Sultan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Dr.Anwar Gargash, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Dr.Mohammed Al-Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani.

During the meetings, A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė spoke about development issues of bilateral political and economic cooperation and stressed that Lithuania was looking for reliable partners in the sphere of economy and energy. The Undersecretary of the Ministry invited the (Persian) Gulf countries to take part in the implementation of Lithuania’s Development Cooperation projects in Afghanistan.

Foreign Undersecretary A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with heads of Oman’s financial and energy companies on her visit.

Today a meeting is scheduled with the candidate for the post of the Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Oman Anees Issa Al Zadjali.
