UNDERSECRETARY OF LITHUANIA‘S MFA ATTENDED THE INTERNATIONAL LENNART MERI CONFERENCE
On 29-31 March, Undersecretary of Lithuania‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius attended an international conference in Tallinn, dedicated to the 80th birthday anniversary of former Estonian President Lennart Meri. In his speech at the session “Dealing with Belarus: Principles versus Practice”, E.Ignatavičius stressed that Lithuania would strive to make full use of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative by suggesting joint projects with Belarus in the energy, transport, environment and other sectors.
“As Lithuania starts its Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States this year, we will aim to include Belarus into the activities of this organization as well”, E.Ignatavičius said.
According to the Undersecretary of Lithuania‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, liberalization of visa regime would be an important prerequisite for the development of mutual people-to-people contacts, youth exchange, culture cooperation and tourism.
According to E.Ignatavičius, the Eastern Partnership initiative has to open up possibilities for the Belarusian society to be involved in the process of European integration, to get the feeling of its significance and benefit for the future of the state. Lithuania hopes for an ambitious Belarusian participation in this process.
