UNDERSECRETARY OF LITHUANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS EXPRESSED LITHUANIA’S SUPPORT TO MOLDOVA ON ITS PATH OF EUROINTEGRATION

On 27 November, during the conference “Moldova in Europe – Europe in Moldova” in Chişinău, Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Žygimantas Pavilionis indicated that Lithuania supported Moldavians strategic choice to embark on the path of eurointegration reforms. “Lithuania’s experience has taught us that having a united political stance on eurointegration reforms is crucial for the quality of partnership with the European Union,” said Ž.Pavilionis.

Undersecretary also indicated that there had been tangible success in EU – Moldova relations since 2005: a constructive dialogue was opened up and EU – Moldova Action Plan concluded. However, there are serious shortcomings in the implementation of EU – Moldova Action Plan, first of all in the sphere of human rights, media, combating corruption, independence of judiciary and investment climate.

Speaking about the Transnistrian region, Ž.Pavilionis expressed the support of Lithuania and the EU to Moldova and encouraged to increase regional contacts between Moldova, Romania and Ukraine in solving problems of the security of borders, the movement of people and free trade.

On 27 November, Ž.Pavilionis also met with Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Valeriu Ostalep and discussed with him the reforms that are being implemented in Moldova.
