UN Human Rights Council discusses report by outgoing Special Rapporteur on Right to Health Prof. Dainius Pūras

On 3 July, the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health Professor Dainius Pūras presented his last annual report to the UN Human Rights Council.

During an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on 6 July, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas thanked Prof. Pūras for his dedication to his mandate and all the valuable work he had done over the past six years on the realisation of the right to health, both mental and physical.

„Individuals must be empowered to make independent and informed decisions about their lives, including mental health. The human-rights based approach to health must guide our individual responses as well as collective action“, said the Ambassador A. Krivas.

The 44th session of the Human Rights Council is taking place from June 30 to July 17. The goal of the Geneva-based Human Rights Council is to promote universal respect for human rights and freedoms, react to the most urgent human rights violations and provide recommendations. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024 and currently takes part in the work of the HRC as an observer.
