UKRAINE THANKS FOR LITHUANIA’S RESPECT PAID TO THE VICTIMS OF 1932-1933 FAMINE

On 28 November Lithuanian Ambassador Viktoras Baublys met with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk.

The participants of the meeting discussed bilateral Lithuanian-Ukrainian relations, Lithuania’s support for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and the situation in Ukraine a year after the “orange revolution”.

Speaking about Ukraine’s European perspectives Minister Tarasyuk noted that Ukraine expects European Union’s firm support during the Ukraine-EU Summit on 1st December.  Ambassador Baublys underlined the importance of continuous democratic reforms in Ukraine.

The Head of Ukrainian diplomacy handed a letter of thanks for Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis concerning the statement of Lithuanian Seimas on “Commemoration of political repressions and famine victims in Ukraine in 1932-1933” adopted on 24 November.

“We see this important Lithuania’s gesture of brotherhood as a solemn expression of solidarity with Ukraine and also as a moral and political support that aims at commemorating the death of millions of innocent people, destroyed by Stalin’s communist regime. The decision of Lithuanian Seimas is an eloquent evidence of attention to friend’s pain,” is written in Ukrainian Foreign Minister’s letter.
