"UKRAINE BELONGS IN THE EU", CLAIMS LITHUANIA'S FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER (viewes.eu, November 14, 2013)
On November 5, leading European affairs journalist Peter O’Donnell was joined by Linas Linkevi?ius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, for an exclusive interview on the EU’s Eastern Partnership in light of the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius later this month. Lithuania currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Linkevicius argues that “Ukraine belongs to Europe, not just geographically” and that a European political project without Ukraine would be less impressive. He reassures that bringing some Eastern Partnership states like Ukraine, but also Moldova and Georgia, closer to the European Union will not mean that other countries as Azerbaijan, Armenia and Belarus will drift away. The Lithuania Foreign Affairs Minister further wants to preserve good relations with Russia.
