UK MINISTER FOR EUROPE TOOK A POSITIVE VIEW OF LITHUANIA’S SUPPORT FOR DEMOCRACY IN THE EU NEIGHBOURHOOD
On 4 May Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis with the Minister of State for Europe of the United Kingdom Douglas Alexander discussed democracy development in the EU’s Eastern neighbourhood, the EU’s energy policy, forthcoming visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Lithuania.
UK Minister for Europe Douglas Alexander took a positive view of the activities of Lithuanian diplomacy and its Head - Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis in strengthening of democratic processes in Europe, thanked Lithuania for participation in ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan and in the Balkan states.
UK Minister Douglas Alexander participates in the “Vilnius Conference 2006: Common Vision for Common Neighbourhood” while local elections are taking place in the UK. This shows the importance of Vilnius Conference and special attention that the United Kingdom devotes to the democracy development in the region.
