U.S. WELCOMES NATO’S AIR POLICING MISSION IN THE BALTIC STATES

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis received a letter from the U.S.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcoming NATO’s decision to continue Baltic air policing beyond 2014.

According to H. Clinton, the mission is a good example of NATO Allies sharing responsibilities and capabilities as they provide security for each other, especially in a time of tight budgets. The U.S. Secretary of State welcomed the Baltic states’ commitment to enhancing their support for the mission.

H.Clinton also highlighted that in addition to the productive relationship which they enjoy with Lithuania in NATO, the United States appreciates the good work Lithuania accomplished during its recent chairmanships of the Community of Democracies and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.  The U.S. looks forward to many more years of continued bilateral cooperation for promoting peace and security globally.

The letter is a response to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister’s letter of 9 February, thanking the U.S. for supporting NATO’s decision to extend the Baltic air policing mission.
