U.S. assistance for strengthening border protection was discussed in Vilnius

On 15 June in Vilnius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas met with the United States Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Thomas Countryman to discuss important international security issues and thanked the U.S. Government for its versatile support to Lithuania during this difficult period.

Countryman welcomed Lithuania’s progress in implementing the Joint Action Plan between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on Combating Illicit Trafficking of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials and Related Technology. He also informed the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister about the new project that will improve border protection in the Baltic States. The two sides expressed their interest in continuing cooperation and sharing experiences in border protection and exports control with the Eastern Neighbourhood countries.

The officials also discussed preparations for the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit.
