Tsikhanouskaya awards Landsbergis with the highest honor of the Belarusian democratic forces

On 7 November in Vilnius, at the Future of Democracy Forum, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya conferred the highest honor of the Belarusian democratic forces—the Cross of Good Neighbourhood—on Gabrielius Landsbergis, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy.

“History is being made not only by luck, or chance. It’s made by people — people who don’t hesitate, who take responsibility, and demonstrate bravery.  People who aren’t afraid of calling things by their names, even if it’s not a popular thing to tell. You stood firm with Belarusians in the moment of oppression, and became our voice on the international arena. You gave us more than hope — you gave us confidence. You stood for Ukraine — when many got ready to give up — you repeated, again and again, that Ukraine must win. And Ukraine will win,” Tsikhanouskaya said at the award ceremony.

The Cross of Good Neighbourhood is an award from the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to building relations with Belarus and supporting democratic change in the country.

Past recipients of the award include the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola; the Czech Foreign Minister, Jan Lipavský; the former Swedish Ambassador to Belarus, Stefan Eriksson; and the Icelandic Foreign Minister, Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir.
