On 31 July, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė during a ceremony marking the 20th  anniversary of the tragedy in Medininkai, expressed confidence that executing justice in Medininkai case should be our common goal. The ceremony was held at the border control post on Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

"Tragedy in Medininkai  obligates us to seek for historical justice,” A. Skaisgirytė Liauškienė said at the memorial to the victims of murders in Medininkai.

Together with Minister of Internal Affairs Raimundas Palaitis and Minister of Finance Ingrida Šimonytė  she commemorated the  Medininkai  victims and laid wreaths at the memorial.

Twenty years ago on 31 July  tragic events took place at the border post Medininkai on the Belarusian border. On that day, early in the morning, seven Lithuanian officers were attacked by former Soviet Union's special purpose militia unit  (OMON) officers and sacrificed their lives for Lithuania’s freedom.
