Three staff members of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China have been declared undesirable in Lithuania due to activities that violate the Vienna Convention and the laws of the Republic of Lithuania
On 29 November, a diplomatic note was delivered to the People's Republic of China (PRC) regarding the declaration of three non-accredited staff members of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China as personae non gratae and unacceptable in Lithuania.
This decision was taken in the light of the information provided by the competent authorities and the incompatibility of the status and activities of the non-accredited staff with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), other principles and practices of international law and the laws of the Republic of Lithuania.
The employees concerned must leave Lithuania within one week.
Lithuania has always been and remains open to constructive dialogue in resolving bilateral issues by mutual consent. The Ministry also expressed hope that diplomatic relations between the countries will be based on the principles of reciprocity and parity, including in regard to the diplomatic representation of Lithuania in the People's Republic of China. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also offered an interim solution to the Chinese side to ensure the continuity of the diplomatic mission's basic consular, visa and administrative functions in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Special Missions (1969).
