THREE OUT OF FOUR LITHUANIANS SUPPORT COUNTRY’S MEMBERSHIP IN NATO – OPINION POLL

Three out of four inhabitants of Lithuania support the country’s membership in NATO according to the opinion polls conducted in April. As many as 76.2 % of the polled approve of Lithuania’s integration into NATO. 59.5 % of the respondents are active supporters of NATO membership, 16.7 % do not object thereto. 6.8 % of the polled were not interested in NATO enlargement and Lithuania’s security prospects, 17 % believed that Lithuania did not need NATO membership. In December, 75,6 % of inhabitants supported Lithuania’s membership in NATO. According to the results of the survey, 63.3 % of the respondents positively evaluated Lithuania’s invitation to join NATO at the Prague Summit in November last year, while 16.4 % were negative and 20.2 % did not have any opinion at all. The representative survey of 1064 inhabitants on NATO integration was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and conducted by the Market and Public Opinion Research Centre Vilmorus on 10-13 April. The poll targeted inhabitants older than 18 from 18 urban and 56 rural locations. The accuracy of the survey is 3 %.
