THE WORKING GROUP ON GENDER EQUALITY AND THE PROMOTION OF THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN WILL BE HOLDING A MEETING AT THE LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY
Marking the end of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Community of Democracies, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host an informal meeting of the Working Group on Gender Equality and the Promotion of the Rights of Women on 29 June.
According to the Chairman of the Working Group, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius, Lithuania consistently pursues one of the main objectives of the Presidency of the Community of Democracies – the strengthening of women’s role in government - and fully supports and encourages the continuity of the activities of the Working Group.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiates this meeting for the second, expecting a rich discussion of participants about the activities of the Working Group over the past year and their future plans. Representatives from more than twenty countries will be attending the meeting.
The Working Group on Gender Equality and the Promotion of the Rights of Women was created in 2010 in Vilnius as a joint initiative of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the U.S., the Nordic Council of Ministers and the European Institute for Gender Equality.
Lithuania has chaired the Working Group together with the United States since its establishment. New members join this initiative of the Community of Democracies each year.
