THE U.S. PROPOSALS FOR THE U.S. VISA WAIVER PROGRAM WERE DISCUSSED IN PRAGUE

On 6 February Director of Consular Department of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vaidotas Verba took part in the meeting of representatives of the new EU Members that formed the “Coalition for Visa Equality” in Prague and discussed the changes to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program proposed by the U.S.

In opinion of the participants of the meeting, their states do not pose threat to the U.S. security and correspond to enhanced security criteria applied to the participants of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. The Coalition is ready for close cooperation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and State Department.

The members of the Coalition agreed that it is necessary to exchange information with the EU Presidency, European Commission and with other EU Members to gain support for the U.S. visa issues.

The Coalition invites other EU Members to join the “Coalition for Visa Equality” to reach the common goal – participate in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.

The “Coalition for Visa Equality” consists of the Visegrad Group and the Baltic States.
