On 2 April in Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the third meeting of joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian subcommittee on European integration was organized, during which the projects planned for implementation during this year in the areas of social security, insurance, public procurement, agriculture and justice were discussed.

During the meeting the interinstitutional cooperation experience gained in 2006 in the areas of customs, veterinary medicine and tax system was also summarized.

Ukrainian representatives also informed that the decision had been made to extend the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), therefore a long-term assistance of experts in area of customs as well as in other areas is very significant for Ukraine’s future when the state is striving to harmonise its national legal acts with the EU law and implement reforms in the country.

The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Valeriy Piatnytskyi, whereas Lithuanian delegation was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Žygimantas Pavilionis.

The meeting of the joint subcommittee is a preparation for the scheduled visit of Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas to Ukraine on April 12-13. During the visit it is planned to discuss issues of cooperation between the countries, as Ukraine is implementing the EU-Ukraine Action Plan and concrete projects in the area.
