THE STRATEGIC DIALOGUE OF THE BALTIC, NORDIC AND U.S. FOREIGN AFFAIRS SERVICES WILL BE DEVELOPED IN WASHINGTON
On 4-5 November in Washington D.C., Political Director of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas is participating in the meeting of political directors from the Baltic, Nordic and the U.S. foreign ministries. This meeting is held as part of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE) initiative.
E-PINE is a framework for the U.S. cooperation with Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. The initiative was officially launched by the U.S. in 2003, in Washington D.C. E-PINE aims at enhancing the U.S. strategic cooperation with the Baltic and Nordic states. Consultations take place regularly two to three times a year at various levels of foreign ministry officials.At the meeting in Washington D.C., participants will discuss the issues of relations with Russia, China and the EU Eastern Partnership countries, preparation for the upcoming NATO Summit on 19 November in Lisbon, NATO’s new strategic concept, Iran’s nuclear policy and cyber-security.
In addition to the consultations of political directors, the Baltic, Nordic and U.S. officials will meet representatives from the strategic centers in Washington D.C. One of the enlarged sessions will be held at the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington D.C.
