The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania expresses its concern over the Israeli Government’s plans to expand settlements
Lithuania strongly supports a two-state solution where the State of Israel and State of Palestine live side by side in peace and security. Any unilateral actions are detrimental to peace process and threaten the viability of the two-state solution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania is concerned about the Israeli Government’s decision to approve a plan for a new settlement activity in the East Jerusalem area of Givat Hamatos. The European Union has a longstanding and unambiguous position on Israeli settlements. Expansion of settlements is illegal under international law and hinders efforts for peace. We call on the Government of Israel to review this decision and put an end to its settlement policy in East Jerusalem and in the West Bank.
Lithuania calls on both sides to restrain from any unilateral actions that undermine the peace process and reiterates its call to resume negotiations for a lasting peace as soon as possible.
