THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GERMANY IS TO VISIT LITHUANIA

On 13 July Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is coming for a two-day official visit to Lithuania. During the bilateral meeting it is intended to discuss the development of bilateral cooperation, relations with neighbours: Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and the cooperation with Kaliningrad region of Russia. Opinions on security policy issues important for both countries, such as participating in the NATO operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, the enlargement of NATO and partnerships will be also exchanged.

 On 13 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany will be received by President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus. During the visit in Vilnius, the working diner with Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas is also planned.

On 14 July, accompanied by Minister P.Vaitiekūnas, the Head of German diplomacy will go to Lithuanian seaside. In Nida F.W.Steinmeier will visit the summerhouse of Thomas Mann, one of the most famous 20th century German writers. He will take part in the opening of the XI International Thomas Mann Festival and deliver a welcoming speech.

In Nida F.W.Steinmeier will also meet with representatives of Lithuanian culture, socialize with the organizers of Thomas Mann Festival, and explore the possibilities of development of the cultural dialogue between Germany and Lithuania, bilateral cooperation in the areas of education and science.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany F.W. Steinmeier is paying an official visit to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The Head of German diplomacy is arriving in Lithuania from Riga.
