THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND HEADS OF LITHUANIAN ASSOCIATED BUSINESS STRUCTURES DISCUSSED LITHUANIAN BUSINESS INTERESTS IN THE CENTRAL ASIA REGION

On 23 March Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and representatives of the business community discussed means of representing Lithuanian business interests better during the forthcoming visit to the countries of Central Asia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs organized a working lunch, during which Director General for International Chamber of Commerce Lithuania Algimantas Akstinas, Vice-president of the Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists Aloyzas Kuzmarskis, Director General of Lithuanian Business Employers' Confederation Danas Arlauskas, Director General for Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts Vitas Mačiulis, Deputy Director of Lithuanian Development Agency Raimonda Sadauskienė and Director General and Editor in Chief of the daily “Verslo žinios” Rolandas Barysas welcomed the initiative to enhance partner relations in the region.

The Minister could indicate close economic relations only with Kazakhstan, which is 19th on Lithuania’s export list and is its 32nd largest importer. However, the markets of Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Kirghizstan and Turkmenistan are not yet explored by Lithuanian businessmen.

Representatives of the business community and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs agreed to cooperate as closely as possible on the preparation of the visit programme.

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “Hopefully, your participation will contribute to the exploitation of Lithuanian economic potential at its best and give a chance for the country’s businessmen to get better acquainted with the perspectives of business development in those countries”.

Minister P.Vaitiekūnas thanked the International Chamber of Commerce Lithuania for the initiative to coordinate the preparation of Lithuanian business representatives for the visit to the countries of Central Asia.
