“THE MILLENNIUM DIPLOMACY” EXHIBITION PRESENTS THE HISTORY OF LITHUANIAN STATE AND ITS DIPLOMACY

Lithuania‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates its 90th anniversary and invites to a journey through the history of Lithuania’s diplomacy at an exhibition entitled 'The Millennium Diplomacy'. The exhibition is open at the MFA (J.Tumo-Vaižganto 2, Vilnius). This anniversary encouraged the organizers of the exhibition to have a look at the historical perspective of  the origins of Lithuanian state. The independence of Lithuania was created on the foundations of the historical Lithuanian state, and the Independent Lithuania’s diplomacy followed the traditions of its previous diplomacies.

In the millenary history of Lithuania, its diplomacy served for the establishment and preservation of  the statehood.

This exhibition is the first attempt of a general overview of Lithuanian diplomacy’s objectives and tasks at different historical periods, the formation of diplomatic service and its activities aimed at implementing of Lithuania's foreign policy.

The exhibition was compiled by using historical documents and photographs. The awards and gifts presented to Lithuanian Ministers of Foreign Affairs and state leaders by foreign countries will also be exhibited. Objects from Lithuanian diplomatic missions, exhibits, which reflect various diplomatic activities, will also be available at the exhibition.

The exhibition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was prepared by Lithuania’s historians: Dr. Ramunė Šmigelskytė-Stukienė, Dr. Zita Medišauskienė, Doc. Dr. Sandra Grigaravičiūtė and Prof. Dr. Juozas Skirius, Doc. Dr. Česlovas Laurinavičius and Assoc. Dr. Ramūnas Trimakas.

Lithuanian Archives Department, the Central State Archive, the President's Office, the Office of the Seimas, the Lithuanian Art Museum, the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania, the National Library of Martynas Mažvydas, the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences also helped to prepare the exhibition.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was established on 7 November 1918.
