THE MEETING OF WORK GROUP AIMING TO CONSIDER PROPOSALS RELATING TO KALININGRAD TRANSIT WAS ORGANIZED IN THE FOREIGN MINISTRY

On 21 January, the second meeting of work group aiming to formulate and coordinate proposals relating to transit to and from Kaliningrad Region via Lithuania, chaired by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis, was organized in Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting the progress in considering the issues related to Kaliningrad transit in 2004 was observed, the agenda and actions of the work group in the first half of this year were discussed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the benevolent cooperation between the corresponding Lithuanian and Russian departments helped to resolve many technical issues. It is essential to continue this cooperation and consultations in the future.

During the meeting such issues as development of container transportation, more extensive exploitation of Pagegiai railway post, veterinary grouping of cargo, reconstruction of railcars, the elimination of forced train demurrage at Kybartai railway station, railway tariff issues and prospects of the “2K” (Kaliningrad-Klaipeda) project were considered.
