THE LOZORAITIS FAMILY ARCHIVES WERE RENDERED TO LITHUANIA

On 13 March at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the archives of the Lithuanian diplomat and public figure Stasys Lozoraitis junior were rendered to the Lithuanian Central State Archives. The archive in Rome of the respectable Lozoraitis family of diplomats was one of the biggest and most important archives, which were assembled in the Lithuanian emigration during the Soviet period,’ State Secretary of the Ministry Deividas Matulionis indicated at the ceremony.

The archives of Stasys Lozoraitis junior are composed of 174 boxes of various documents dating from 1919 to modern times. Documents reflect the functioning of the Lithuanian diplomatic missions and consular posts in Washington, New York, Paris, Rome, São Paulo and elsewhere. The documents also cover important issues of those times.

After the death of S.Lozoratis junior, this archive was kept in the lodgement, which is the property of his widow Ms Daniela Lozoraitis. Ambassador Kazys Lozoraitis, the brother of S.Lozoratis junior, took care of the archive until his own death last summer.

‘I would like to sincerely thank dear Daniela for keeping this archive, which is very important to us, and for giving it to Lithuania. We also gratefully remember the efforts of Kazys Lozoraitis to assemble his father’s and brother’s archives to the best of his ability and to prepare for their rendering to Lithuania,’ said State Secretary of the Ministry D.Matulionis.

Director General of the Lithuanian Archives Department Vidas Grigoraitis and Director of the Lithuanian Central State Archive Dalius Žižys took part in the ceremony.
