THE ISSUES OF COOPERATION IN THE REGION OF LITHUANIAN-BELARUSIAN BORDER ARE BEING DISCUSSED IN DRUSKININKAI
On 15 November, in Druskininkai during the Lithuanian-Belarusian forum “Druskininkai and Hrodna. The Search for Mutually Beneficial Ways of Development”, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laimonas Talat-Kelpša indicated that such cities as Druskininkai and Hrodna could reach more positive results together, rather than individually.
“I am certain that such forums will materialize the vision to connect Druskininkai, the recreation and tourist attraction centre, and Hrodna, the city with a big historical potential, into an international dipole city”, stated the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The purpose of this forum is to open up a dialogue between Lithuanian and Belarusian institutions regarding the regional cooperation on both sides of the border.
During the event, the necessary regional initiatives to ensure sustainable development of the two cooperating cities are being discussed. The Mayors of Druskininkai and Hrodna are exchanging their visions regarding the perspectives of expansion and cooperation between the two cities.
The representatives of Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communication and Belarusian Ministry of Communication are discussing the issues of infrastructure of rivers, railways, and road transport and bicycle routes between the two cities. Heads of Tourism Departments of the neighbouring countries are considering the required steps for increasing tourist flows in the border regions.
The final focus of the forum “Druskininkai and Hrodna. The Search for Mutually Beneficial Ways of Development” will be laid on the extension of the Cooperation Agreement between the Municipalities of Druskininkai and Hrodna.
The forum is organized by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Druskininkai Municipality.
