THE HOLOCAUST EXHIBITION OF THE LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY OPENS IN WARSAW

The exhibition “The World of Yesterday, the Hope of Today. Pictures and stories from the Centropa interviews in Lithuania” was opened on 3 October on the margins of the ongoing OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw.

The exhibition runs until 7 October. It was organized by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with a Vienna-based NGO Centropa. The exhibition tells memories and displays photographs of Jewish Holocaust survivors in Lithuania. The exhibition informs visitors about daily life of Jewish communities, their traditions, leisure and education.

At the event, Ambassador-at-Large of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Alfonsas Eidintas spoke on behalf of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and stressed the importance of the fight against hatred and intolerance, and emphasized that the Holocaust needed to be taught to the younger generation.

The exhibition was displayed at the Lithuanian diplomatic missions, educational institutions and the Tolerance Centre in Vilnius. The tolerance education events, initiated by Lithuania, are continuing. Tolerance education is one of the priorities of Lithuania’s OSCE Chairmanship.

The Parliament (Seimas) declared 2011 as the Year of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust in Lithuania.
