THE FIRST MEETING OF COORDINATION COMMISSION FOR LITHUANIAN EURO-ATLANTIC SECURITY POLICY
On 23 August the first meeting of Coordination Commission for Lithuanian Euro-Atlantic security policy (CCLESP) took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting the activities of Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan and NATO forces offer for Lithuania for 2006 were discussed.
The CCLESP established by the Government considers strategic issues of Lithuania’s participation in NATO activities, European Security and Defence Policy structures and initiatives, coordinates the activities of Lithuanian ministries, Government agencies and other state institutions related to Lithuania’s membership in Euro-Atlantic security and defence structures.
The CCLESP has replaced the interdepartmental Coordination Commission for the integration into NATO and seeks to proceed with successful coordination of state institutions’ foreign security policy.
Coordination Commission for Lithuanian Euro-Atlantic security policy is chaired by Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis and Defence Minister Gediminas Kirkilas is its deputy chairman.
