THE FIRST LITHUANIA’S AMBASSADOR TO ARGENTINA STARTED HIS DUTIES

On 19 February, Lithuania’s Ambassador Vaclovas Šalkauskas presented copies of his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina Jorge Enrique Taiana and thus started his duties as the Ambassador of Lithuania to Argentina. Embassy in Buenos Aires is the only Lithuanian Embassy in South America. Lithuania’s relations with Argentina are particularly important for the development of markets and activities of Lithuanian community. Latin America is becoming increasingly important for Lithuania in economic and cultural cooperation.

V.Šalkauskas is a career diplomat, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991. He is the first Lithuanian ambassador to Argentina. Lithuania and Argentina established diplomatic relations on 25 August 1991. Since the establishment of the embassy seven years ago, it was headed by chargés d’affaires.
