THE FIRST AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES TO LITHUANIA STARTS HIS DUTIES

On 16 November in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė received the first Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmood to Lithuania. At the meeting, the Ambassador stressed that the U.A.E. was interested in developing bilateral relations in the areas of economy, culture, education and tourism. The bilateral economic agreements that are currently being drafted would provide a basis for a more intense business exchanges.

Foreign Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė highlighted that the U.A.E. was Lithuania’s largest economic partner in the region and emphasized the great potential for the development of economic relations, including cooperation in the field of energy. Lithuania supported the nomination of the U.A.E. for the establishment of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi and would like to develop cooperation in research and studies on this subject.

The interlocutors also exchanged their opinions on issues that are topical for the Persian Gulf region.

The Ambassador of the U.A.E., who resides in Berlin, came to Lithuania to present credentials to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Lithuania and the U.A.E. established diplomatic relations on 16 October 1992.
