THE DISCUSSION ON THE EU 2020 STRATEGY WAS HELD AT LITHUANIA’S MFA
On 5 February, a round table discussion “The EU 2020 Strategy: Lithuania’s Interests” was held at Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives from state institutions, independent experts, social and economic partners attended the discussion.
Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Economy Rimantas Žylius, Vice-Minister of Finance Rolandas Kriščiūnas, programme director at the Public Policy and Management Institute Vitalis Nakrošis gave speeches. Director of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University Ramūnas Vilpišauskas moderated the discussion.
During the discussion, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė raised key issues, related to financing, management and priorities of the EU 2020 Strategy.
According to the Vice-Minister, no agreement has yet been reached on the main indicators for the EU 2020 Strategy, on the obligation to satisfy recommendations of the European Commission, and on the application of sanctions to the countries that fail to fulfil their commitments.
In June this year, the European Council should finally endorse the EU 2020 Strategy for economic growth and employment. This strategy aims to help the EU to recover from the economic crisis and to fuel economic development, based on knowledge and effective use of resources.
