THE DAYS OF LITHUANIA STARTED IN CRIMEA

On 22 May in Yalta, Crimea, the Days of Lithuania were launched with a round table discussion of the Lithuanian and Ukrainian historians “Historical Ties between Lithuania and Crimea”.

A business-seminar of Lithuania and Crimea, that took place in the historical Livadian Palace, received a lot of attention from the local business and media representatives. During the event, welcoming speeches were given by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Evaldas Ignatavičius, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Ukraine Algirdas Kumža, Vice Chair of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Tetyana Umrihina, Minister of Economy Svetlana Verba, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Yermachkov and other high-ranking officials.

An exhibition of Lithuanian artists Aloyzas Stasiulevičius and Sigitas Staniūnas, as well as an exhibition of photos by Ambassador A.Kumža were opened in the Livadian Palace. A performance was given by the Crimean artists at the event.

On the eve of the opening of the Days of Lithuania, Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry E.Ignatavičius met with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Yeliseyev in Kiev. They discussed the possibilities that the new Eastern Partnership initiative of the European Union opened up for Ukraine, bilateral relations between Lithuania and Ukraine, perspectives for regional cooperation.

E.Ignatavičius met with Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Crimea Anatoliy Hrytsenko and discussed issues of regional cooperation, the necessity for strengthening bilateral relations in the field of tourism, culture and business. They agreed to organise a representation of the possibilities of the Crimean business in Lithuania.

In Yalta, Undersecretary of the Ministry E.Ignatavičius spoke with representatives from the Lithuanian community in Crimea and visited the office of the Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Simferopol.

During the Days of Lithuania, the Lithuanian petroleum refining company Mažeikių Nafta and one of the Crimean business companies signed a protocol of intentions regarding the provision of light petroleum products.
