THE ARCHIVES OF LITHUANIAN BROADCASTS OF THE VOICE OF AMERICA RETURN TO LITHUANIA
On 20 December, the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington overtook the archives of Lithuanian broadcasts of the Voice of America and organized their return to Lithuania.
Takeover of the archives is a result of consistent and close cooperation among such Lithuanian and the U.S. institutions as the Voice of America, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lithuanian Embassy in Washington, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius.
There are about 24 boxes of tapes of the broadcasts, which the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington intends to return to Lithuania in the nearest few weeks.
The decision to return the archives of the Voice of America was announced on 24 July by the U.S. Office of the Federal Register and the U.S. National Archives satisfied the request.
According to current Voice of America Director Danforth W. Austin, those are all Lithuanian broadcasts, which the Voice of America has in their disposition today.
