THE AMBASSADOR OF THE LITHUANIAN PERMANENT REPRESENTATION AT UNESCO WAS ELECTED VICE-CHAIR OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
On 5 November, in Paris at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters, Ambassador of the Lithuanian Permanent Representation at UNESCO Ina Marčiulionytė was elected vice-chair of UNESCO’s Executive Board during the 178th session of the Executive Board. At the same time she became a member of the Executive Board Bureau. The first session of the new Executive Board plans the activities of the Executive Board for the next two years. The Member States distribute into committees and elect members of the Bureau.
The issues that are due to be discussed during the upcoming 179th session in spring are also decided within the framework of the current session.
UNESCO’s Executive Board Bureau consists of twelve members, including the chairperson of the Executive Board, six vice-chairs (one representative from each electoral group) and five chairpersons of the committees of the Executive Board. The Bureau meets during the sessions of the Executive Board and, in case of necessity, also between the sessions.
Lithuania was elected to UNESCO’s Executive Board, one of the three governing organs of UNESCO, for a four-year term of office in autumn 2005. The other UNESCO’s governing organs are also the General Conference and Secretariat.
