THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TREATY OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND IRAN IS MARKED

On 16 November in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Samad Ali Lakizadeh and discussed with him the current relevance to inter-country relations of the Treaty of Friendship between the Republic of Lithuania and the Persian Empire. The treaty was signed 80 years ago.

During the meeting, officials noted that the treaty of 1930 provided a framework for cooperation between the countries. Besides, it was necessary to promote people-to-people contacts and understanding, as well as cooperation in the areas of culture and education. Iran also sees the potential for developing bilateral economic relations.

The interlocutors dedicated considerable attention to the discussions on security situation in the Persian Gulf region and Iran’s relations with its neighbouring countries.

The Ambassador of Iran, who resides in Warsaw, came to Lithuania to present credentials to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
