TALKS IN JORDAN: FROM ECONOMICS TO WORLD POLITICS

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis finished his working visit in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 13 October. The chief of Lithuanian diplomacy presented a letter by Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus to King of Jordan Abdulah II, who received the minister during his three-day stay. The letter expressed an interest in developing bilateral relations in various fields and satisfaction with the Association Agreement between Jordan and the European Union (EU) coming into force. At the meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher, the topics of discussion were bilateral relations, the conflict in the Middle East, the issue of Iraq, relations with the US and neighbouring countries. The Jordanian minister underscored that the country represented by him ranked its relations with the EU as a priority. At the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister signed a bilateral Agreement on Promotion and Protection of Investment. Ministers discussed possibilities of supplying Jordan with Lithuanian dairy and meat products, wood and metal articles. The businessmen delegation accompanying Minister Valionis had a special programme of their stay. On 14 October, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister returned to Vilnius having completed a weeklong working tour of Arab countries – Egypt, Syria and Jordan.
