STUDENTS AND TEACHERS OF THE EUROPEAN HUMANITIES UNIVERSITY VISITED BRUSSELS

During a visit to Brussels on 11 – 12 September eight students of the European Humanities University (EHU) and two lecturers from Belarus met with representatives of the European Commission and diplomats from the permanent representations to the European Union of such Member States as Estonia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, France and Sweden, who are coordinating Belarus related issues. The meeting took place at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU.

The guests were welcomed by the Ambassador-at-Large of the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU Kęstutis Jankauskas.

The interest in the students and teachers from Belarus was so high that they were answering questions of the EU representatives for almost two hours, telling about their studies and life in Vilnius and the situation in Belarus.

“It was very important for us to meet the EHU students in person. Now we have a broader view of the functioning of the EHU and can better understand the importance of the University,” said representatives of the Commission.

On 12 September, the Belarusian students and teachers also met with representatives of non-governmental organizations. The latter admired the courage and determination of the Belarusian students to study at the university-in-exile, although in a free and democratic academic environment.

Director of Brussels-based Office for Democratic Belarus Olga Stuzhinskaya encouraged the students and teachers to promote democratic objectives of Belarusian people in Europe and discussed the possibilities of cooperation.

During a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the Brussels division of the European Youth Press organization “YouthPress” Lien de Leenheer, the media and communication studies at the EHU, student activities and opportunities for the implementation of joint projects in the future were discussed.

This visit was organized by Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament Justas Vincas Paleckis.
